I'm spoilt for choice on my route down to Omeo, there is the Barry Way via Jindabyne, The Bonang Hwy via Delegate, or down the Cann Valley Hwy, via Orbost and that's just on the east side of the range. I could also go over the Snowy Mtns Hwy through Tumut and then over the GAR to Omeo.

I'm very tempted to go down the Barry Way, I plan to leave early Monday morning (by the way I live near Cooma) and get to Bairnsdale around early arvo.
If anyones coming through on the coast or Canberra let me know and hopefully we can meet up. It's apparently 1 1/2 hrs from Bairndale to Omeo so the various routes I have to chose from will give me the afternoon to get to Omeo.

So , who's going which way and when ?

Sounds good.....Bazza's Way comes highly recommended by the Old Man of the Road, Henning Jorgensen!

Im planning to leave the Peninsula at a gentlemany hour on Monday morning and proceed along the Princes Hwy aiming for Bairnsdale by lunchtime...is there a recommended coffee emporium in Bairnsdale where we could convene before going over the range?

I don't know the area well but a bit of Googlling showed this place on the way to Omeo, unless someone has a better knowledge of the area

Hi Guys, Bruthen is a little town about 21kms from Bairnsdale and at the junction where the GAR really starts (was Omeo Hwy). There are 3 choices for coffee etc and all are ok. During Monday there will be hundreds of bikes going through. Plan not to have a rush of blood, police presence will be significant.
1 1/2 hr to Omeo from here is pretty much spot on. There is a BP servo.
cheers Graeme

Snig, Trots and all,
I'm leaving Sydney Sunday morning, probably droning down the Hume and Monaro, to overnight somewhere like (inimitable) Nimmitabel, or Bombala. Next morning, I'll flick through the Bonang Hwy to Bruthen.
Bruthen sounds like an excellent cake-stop at lunchtime! cake eating.gif
Would love a fellow traveller or two - can negotiate the route from Sydney. drinks.gif
Might organise a new rear 150/70 ZR17 Michelin PR2 in Omeo or before. Any shop anyone may suggest??

Hi MB,
I was planning to go either the Barry way or the Bonang, the Bonang sounds a goer, what time would you be heading off from where your staying?
I'm about 1 1/2 hrs from Bombala (I'm nr Bredbo) It would be great to ride down together, i was leaving home at sparrow fart and would top up at Bombala for the trip down to Bruthen, probably getting to Bombala around 08:00-08:30.

Hi MB, about your rear tyre, Trotski may have a suggestion for somewhere up his way but if you are coming to Bruthen without doing it then the tyre options are really only Bairnsdale. While Omeo garage(s) can fit a tyre the better choice is for one of the Bairnsdale bike shops to do so. I go to Doyle & Shields (Yamaha & Honda).
Dale is the spares man and Trevor the dealer. Their phone is 51524687. It pays to book ahead and if you do so then it wont take long to do. Dale tells me that they fit something like 30-40 tyres over the thurs / friday & sat of this coming week as everyone heads for the island so they will be limbered up come Monday. Guess they do a few then too. Anyway, if you do ring them and book make sure to tell them you are in the TDM rally. I am going tomorrow to get a new rear and will mention you to them. Obviously not using "motobloke" though.
cheers Graeme

MB, the only place I can suggest is Joe's( Yam dealer) or Gecko (Duc dealer+Tryres) in Fyshwick (Canberra ) as there is no one between Canberra and Bairnsdale, don't know anyone there as I used to use the Cooma bloke but he has closed down

I have been known to crap on about the fuel economy of my bike....so for a bit of fun I will try to make it from the Peninsula to Omeo on a single tank....just riding normally......if I fill up in Hastings it will be 390 odd km to Omeo and based on my average I should have 1.4 litres left when I get there.....tup.gif

Who's Going Which Way And When ?

Well... I figured I'd leave Perth on Saturday, and I finally got around to that on Sunday. Then I figured I'd a stay at Norseman WA, which I did and the bedbugs were well fed even if I wasn't (kitchen wasn't open at the pub but it's the cheapest bed between here and there, and if you stay in room 8 between now and December you'll likely get to reuse my sheets! blink.gif ) Then I figured Eucla would be a good target, but it got so cold that I fell short at Mundrabilla where 3 beers was enough to make my munted head go noddy. From Mundrabilla it was off to Streaky Bay, on the Eyre Peninsula SA, where the food is good and the rooms are cheap, comfortable, and clean. Here's a picture taken today:

I'm under the big blue blob, just in case you're wondering, I'll be travelling under it for the next couple of days (as ordained by the BOM). I should get to Omeo just in time for Noah to load the gerbils and gorillas, but well before shove-off if I don't waste too much time sight seeing on the way.

On a lighter note, I'm seeing a major shift in Australias' two wheeled demographic... the bikers are all heading east for the GP at the Island while the bikies are all heading west for the biffo. Now aint that all keeping Mr Plod busy in the dessert. attention.gif

The important bit is that you are coming!! Weather will be fine by Sunday and looking good for the week so far. Travel well.

Thanks Graeme, and all, for your enquiries.
As it's happened, I have been riding 'TidDuMs' all week commuting, and the wear bars on the Pirelli Angel ST on the rear is now flush with surface, so I've ordered a Michelin PR2 rear (850's size, 150/70 x 17, are not unobtainium), fitting it tomorrow.
Warming up to stay in Delegate, on my way south, Sunday night. Probably stop at Cooma or similar to catch the MotoGP on One at 3.30pm. clapping.gif

I like the Pirelli too, though the PR2 on the front is even better. yeahyeahyeah.gif
