What are your opinions on CE armour?

Do you keep the standard stuff supplied with clothing

or change for a brand aftermarket item?

I assume its like helmets they all do the basic same job

but depends on personal choice.

I find I use the Hind Gerkin CE stuff and will swap it around various clobber as and when reqd. Not saying it is better or great even, but it does fit this RFB.

.......FWIW, I would assume that any armour that 'comes-with' , and which is described as having a CE rating, 1 or 2, would
be as effective from a protection point of view as a similarly classified after-market product....

Where the subjectivity might come in, of course, would be in terms of comfort, looks, and the even less definable 'grooviness' factor.

Of course, when it comes to items which have been owned for some time, it might be that even if the originals remain in pristine condition, 'state of the art' advances might make a change desirable.....probably not in terms of protection, for which the CE standards
have remained the same, as far as I know, but certainly maybe in the comfort stakes, ......for example D30 type products might seem to offer some benefits against earlier generation OE armour

My 16 year-old, but infrequently worn, very meaty Rukka jacket, might weigh a couple of tons less if I substituted some next generation armour........though I suspect that the fixed-in-place 'back protector' might be more cosmetic than functional, so would require augmenting by a 'properly one'......

........the perennial problem........the cost / convenience / pursuit of perfection dilemma..........Jiff.

Ce approval is a minimum standard only.
Same as the bs/acu gold standard on helmets.
Whilst the back protector in your aldi jacket might well be ce approved but do you think it provides the same amount of protection add a back protector that costs more than double the cost of your entire jacket?
