With the Guitar thread going on elsewhere I thought it might be a good time to bring up something that Emmett and I have been talking about - getting a Carpe band together at the RTT if there is enough interest. There seem to be lots of carpedians who play guitar or bass and so I expect there are others musically inclined who knock a tune out of other instruments or sing (and even drummers!). Any skill level or style will do. The pub that the hostel is attached to has a stage with PA and Maurice, the owner, has said we can use them. If the weather is good I was hoping to sort out a barbeque so we could have an open air gig too. Emmett and I can probably get enough instruments together (guitars, basses, drums, keyboards amps and what ever else you might need - let us know) so you don't need to strap your harp or double bass on the tank and bring it over - I expect most of you will bring your own organs. So, if enough people are up for it, we could sort a line up, suggest some tunes (so we can all practice!) and have a really good laugh as well as providing ample opportunity for non playing members to take the p*ss out of us!

So tell us what you think of the idea.

P.S. Just to get my excuse in early, regardless of what you may have read (Pict!!!!), I have not played with a band since 1986 and the most I do now is to tune and test the instruments I make - and that with difficulty!

1) B****r - I've just been looking out the footpump and bought some new rubber strings!

2) You can depend on it in Wicky's case! rolleyes.gif

3) tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

4) Seriously, it's a good idea - but no "Irish Rover" please! Instrumentals? - easy Kerry polkas or slides?

5) I'm still a learner, far less a public player, led alone been in a band!!!

sounds a great idea

if we don't have to carry instruments even better.

not sure about songlist, but a round-the-room, add-a-verse session of "Well I woke up this morning, Got the TDM blues...etc etc" would be good !

count me in!

Ronnie Drew was a 'Dub' (from Dublin oddly enuf....) but he lived in my home town of Greystones, i drank in the same pub as him fer years and often seen him 'steamed up' in the Burnaby Bar and singing his gruff melodic tunes.
