Done mine today, tried both bellows, GA18 and GA19, GA18 with the narrow neck snipped off at the fourth bump is just right. The advantage is that GA18 comes in fours. Stainless allen screws and spring washers to put back. Used aCf50 to lubricate.

Cut off FORTH bump near NARROW end, not the other end or you will ruin the job works a treat.

Mr Henty fitted this boot to mine yesterday and this morning was my 1st proper chance to test it and it is bang on, works absolutely fantasticly, Cheers again Lee

Done mine today banana.gif i managed to undo the cheesy screws using molegrips on the 1st screw so removed that one,,,the other was a bit more stubborn and for some reason i could'nt get any purchase on the 2nd with molegrips so i used an old screwdriver and my big hammer laugh.gif so did not have to take the radiator hose off at all,,,,,,put a red cable tie on the top cvoolant pipe to the CSM to remind me what went were as well,,,,all cleaned and lubed and screws replaced with stainless Allenheads,,,,,worse part of the job was putting the airbox back on the carbs ranting.gif

So, being new to TDM ownership, I am on a learning curve

Having only had the bike for a couple of weeks, all of which have been warm, I am unsure what to expect from my fast idle thing

Currently, when I start the bike, it starts and ticks over at a stable tickover speed, not a ""fast idle"

Is this as it should be?

The fast idle plunger generally sticks in the "fast" or cold engine position (makes sense as that's where it should be when parked), so if you've got a problem you'll know about it as the idle will be something like 2700 rpm

1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now :(
2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.

If you're unsure when it's cold give the plunger a push (see LINK #1) - while sat on the bike it should move from right to left
  • Right being Fast Idle
  • Left being Normal Idle
If it's stuck on fast idle but idles at the correct rpm (~ 1200) then it's possible that someone has adjusted the tick-over.
If you start the bike 1st thing in the morning, and push the slider to the left the rev's "should" drop and the bike may stall, as you're essentially turning off fast-idle.

If it is stuck then see LINK #2 on a good fix - it may be worth just stripping it down either way to give it a clean...in which case have a word with Mr Henty and get a set of his CSM bolts to replace the ones that Yamaha made from taffy.

LINK #1
LINK #2

You'll need to register on JBX's site if you haven't already.
Also - Link #1 has decent picture of where the slider is for the purpose of checking.

I suspect I have nothing to worry about, but will get in there with a coat of ACf-50

My fast idle is stuck in the 'fast' position with the pin fully retracted so I will have ago at freeing it as per this thread.

Question is, does the wax-stat get damaged when the pin is seized in the 'in' position like this?  Does the pin punch a hole in the stat or cause it to crack when the expansion is prevented as it heats up?

Also, can the stat be tested when it is removed by dropping it in a jug of hot water, for instance and seeing movement?  Would be nice to know it is OK before reassembly.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
