Hi Joel,
have you read the posts in this topic ? The second post mentions having to fit a relay as his was blowing fuses. I'm assuming you haven't fitted a relay as you haven't mentioned fitting one. I'm also assuming you installed an R6 pump using the same method for wiring it in as the method shown in the first post. The original pump wiring should be suitable for the job intended.

yeah, I fitted the relay from the start and picked up the switched leg so the pump switches on/off using the Run/Off switch on the right handlebar. I thought I followed the schematic from this thread exactly.
The weird thing is it seems to run great. Then, for no reason the ground wire from the pump to the battery will completely melt. It actually happened again this AM. I filled up the bike, switched it on, and poof. Up in smoke.
I'm considering going back to a vacuum pump. Has anyone found a current Mikuni (or other vacuum) pump that is a direct replacement?

The pump for a mk1 is an endangered species these days unfortunately. I'm not 100% sure but I think a mechanical pump for a mk2 can be made to fit.

It's possible the r6 pump I have is in some way faulty. I'll update when I get the new-old vacuum pump in and working.

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

- Don't use a FZR1000 pump, it'll work, but for some reason it's a higher pressure than normal, a VF750 pump works a treat.
- CHECK YOUR FLOAT LEVELS! Use the pump to fill up the bowls, preferably on the bench where you have all the access you need.
- 15mm (about where there is a "bend" in the bowl cover) below the mikuni line seems to work fine for me.
- There is a sweet spot when adjusting the float level, bending it too little makes raises float level, but bending it too much raises it as well!
- About 4.4mm including the plastic bit the bendable tab is located in (it'll make sense when you open it up) works for me.
- Open up the fuel drain bolts more than 1 complete turn or it'll give false readings.
Some of this may be common sense or obvious, but it wasn't to me, so I thought I'd share my findings
After you've done all this it should run like a dream, mine sure does after lowering the fuel level 16mm.... It even does powerwheelies now

well not inpressed i connected it up with fuel lines attached and still nothing. so i've sent an email to the ebay seller stating a full refund

right sent 1st pump back and now had sencond pump delivered. AND GUESS WHAT thats one is knackard to. do people check before they post thes up on ebay. so on the hunt again for an other. will any other pumps work from other bikes.

i'm sick of being messed around will this one work. i know it's not a yam oem part but it is for a 99-02 r6 i can pick this up 2morrow from hereford.

yer i followed the instructions on here. i checked the pump off the battery too. the 1st one i had, had current but would not pump and the second had nothing. got my refund for the 1st and now i got to send the second one back. to get a refund
quick question the pump should work with out any fuel lines connected. i should hear the clicking noise. right?

what the hell am i doing wrong. i've got the pump conected to the red and black wire that goes to the relay block on the left hand side of the bike i've put a 10amp fuse between the red and black wire and the pump. put the black wire to the negative side of battery there is a current flowing but the pump is not making a sound. WHY WHY WHY WHY IT'S A BRAND NEW PUMP

ANYWAY note to people that are going to do this. conect the fuel line the right way round the pump must have a sensor in it that tells it to stop pumping when the fuel backs up to it.
nexts thing is i got to adjust the the float in the right carb because it is overflowing.

fuel pump working well and i've adjust the floats a bit to stop it from leaking but the bike is idle-ing a bit high and i can't turn it down on the idel nob anymore. is there too much fuel getting through. it's a bit boggy and juddery around 2500rpm but once you pass 3000 it fine. do the fuel levels need adjusting and carbs balancing again.

Well, if there was too much fuel getting into the carbs then they would be flooding. Can you hear the pump pressure up when you turn the ignition on ? And does the pump stop when it's pressured up ?
Can't help much with the leccy pump as I've never fitted one. Might be better asking in the all about TDM section instead of the KB.

yer the pupm is working well fills up and stops when full. if there was any residue of wd40 in the fuel bowls after i cleaned them would that cause a high idle.
