Good question.

In my case, no; bike is original as Yamaha intended.

All mine has it Symtec grips, which are powered via a relay so don't heat up until engine is running, and I have a low beam HID.

Everything else is standard.

Only thing that I can link to my failure was a long (2hr+) journey home from work in the snow, so I was only managing about 10-15mph most of the way, so figured that was the culprit in my instance.

Bike had done ~ 85k miles when mine fried.

Last four from Robin Williams in Devon.

But I don't think the rewind quality is the issue here.
