Rtt10 Arrangements - Ideas

My Mum God Bless Her, Was Manx, and my upbringing was IOM and Mayo Irl, My brother God Bless Him, spend his summers embroiled in the TT weeks. My Uncle Jim was a famous Sidecar Frame Designer/builder in the sixties, nope, dont remember his Surname, someone google it!
I can remember laying awake in the early morning and flinching as the bikes screamed past as practice took place.
This RTT will be a road of discovery and memories from my childhood days
I know I have relations still there and have a contact. Some of my time will be reviewing my past.

Tony,
you'll need to contact the bunkhouse directly, ask to speak to Lynne Kermode.
She will ask for confirmation in writing and a 50% deposit.
Looking forward to meeting up with both yourself and Catz again.
Looks as though it's gonna be a good one.
BD
ps edit, just checked will be travelling back together.

Thanks for replying dave - sorry for late reply Tony but I have been looking at.............THIS
I just went to the Launch for the free coffee and nibbles really but it is an interesting machine - if you want high technology 170mph tourer with vulnerable plastic.
It's a great design, including decent, neat, hard luggage, and will no doubt be utterly bullet-proof (speaking as an ex-CBR1000F owner)

RTT10 - EVENTS AND RIDEOUTS
Possible things to do are listed below and will be dependent on level of interest:
1. TT laps - clearly to sample current TT couse as much as poss. (and most is limit free!) as well as the 2 older courses on the east and west of the island
2. TT - starting (and ending) every day with a lap of the course helps get to know it (omiting douglas by cutting corner from cronk-y-mona to highlander)
3. Coastal trip - including Peel, Ramsey Laxey, and the lovely little southern ports of Erin and St Mary and of course Castletown
4. Twisties and mountain roads - in the centre of the island are brilliant and an opportunity to see england, scotland, wales and ireland all together
5. Walking - for anyone who fancies it, has fantastic coast/cliff edge sections in southern part of island (bring some stout shoes/trainers!)
6. Southern 100 races - S100 is in latter part of week (as Dandy suggested) will be good and you get REALLY close
7. IoM car rally - on first weekend is at various points on the island and will be good to see for petrol heads
8. Bike museums - (2) have some of best prepared oldsters I have ever seen and it's FREE
9. Unique transport system - horse trams and steam railway and, of course, the mountain railway, which takes you to where you can see the 5 kingdoms!
10 Track days and kart sessions - karts are probably best option as you don't need one piece leathers and they are REAL karts
11. Music session - I will get guitars over and so we can get a do it yourself jam session, acoustic and acoustic-electric (not just my "tesco" guitar!)
12. Fishing trip - for those who might be inetrested this can possibly be arranged through Treadman's chums
13. "S100 party" - we have had invite from one of the teams to pop in after the racing as they have a party going
14. And, of course ... more TT laps, the more you do it, the more you get to know this most glorious ribbon of tarmac
Any comments on the above will be welcome and I will be able to put a programme together once we can be a bit firmer on the numbers
All the best
Pete
in response to Ivan's timley post I would welcome comments on the above as we are now getting closer.............

2. Oh yes.
3. Oh yes.
4. Oh yes.
5. Why not? It's a beautiful place.
6. I'll probably miss this as I have to go back Wednesday PM.
7. Oh yes. I've seen it before, it is impressive.
8. Yes, I love bike museums and haven't been to either.
9. Not my kind of thing.
10 Karting sounds fun.
11. As long as I don't have to sing
12. Not my kind of thing.
13. I'll probably miss this as I have to go back Wednesday PM.
14. Yes, yes, yes.
I'll look into sorting a pub crawl one evening if there are enough pubs near the bunkhouse or within public transport range. There's some great beers brewed on the Island.
Thanks for your efforts so far Pete.

(all these SUGGESTIONS include cake stopsin day and beer in evening)
friday - first arrivals check out place and have a beer
saturday - welcome arrivals and maybe see car rally evening at hawthorns
sunday laps and welcome arrivals, visit museum and group TT laps to see the hallowed 37 miles, evening pub crawl - douglas?
monday - coastal tour/see the sights especially southern coast
tuesday - twisties tour/jurby/karts/S100 practice, evening party
wednesday - visit glen helen craft centre/pix gallery etc historic (clypse and st johns) laps
thursday - coastal walk and S100 races
friday - mountain top tram etc final mini party
saturday last of us depart back to blighty
It's not a SAGA holiday (hoho) so this is just an outline of ideas and the aim is, of course, to ensure we do
- whatever we all like together or separately
- take heed of the weather
- fit in museum, karts, walks, runs, swims etc as it takes us
- maintain renowned carpe-tdm levels of intellectual repartee and wit
I would welcome any comments and will do a bit more research during TT as I am going over early this year

I am hoping that we may also be able to visit the Murrays Museum old bike collection from up at the bungalow (on the Mountain). I asked for some info on the IOMTT forum and this looks useful..............
"................Not sure when it is open, Pete (the owner) seems to treat it as a hobby, and i think you will be welcome if you turn up anytime as long as he is in!
http://i123.photobuc.../scan0007-1.jpg
On the Castletown road from Douglas you will aproach a house/cottage on the left hand side as you come to a R/H bend just before the Fairy Bridge. If you turn off left(as if you are going straight on) up the lane,Murrays in on the L/H side of the lane.
Drive slowly into his house (Penny is only a little dog!) and you will see a big green building. If the doors are open,so is Pete!............"
we will give it a go if you fancy - it was a real disappointment when the old building closed down, a really dramatic site right up on the mountain, but I guess far too expensive to keep going
this is a chance to see some fascinating old stuff, from racing machines to truly ancient leathers, lids and pieces of hardware ..... if we can fit it all in
We can just see how it, and the weather, goes
Pete
BTW This is some of the ARE collection in Kirkmichael:
